ABSI - A Body Shape Index

ABSI – A Body Shape Index – is one of novel parameters aiming to better correlate overweight to health risk. In July 2013 on-line biomedical magazine PLoS ONE published research findings of a medical team lead by Dr. Nire Krakauer (City College of New York) with analysis of data from > 14 000 adults participating in National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Based on this analysis the authors propose a novel index, which they call ABSI - A Body Shape Index

Rather complicated formula is not supposed to be calculated manually. The calculator below enables to calculate  – in addition to ABSI – a panel of parameters related to body weight and cardiometabolic risk.

*) average mortality risk related to obesity: lower value = lower risk. The values are approximated based on a "real" population at least a half of which is overweight, normal values for healthy population are supposed to be lower by cca 0.01.
